After winning an impressive eight events at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup, Liberty saw two of its event champions honored by the Big South Conference on Wednesday. Redshirt senior Janae Jones (women's triple jump champion) was named Big South Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week and junior Carson Waters (men's pole vault champion) was tabbed Big South Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Jones has now won a pair of Big South weekly honors this season and five for her career. Meanwhile, Waters has earned back-to-back Big South Athlete of the Week recognitions and three during his career.

Jones triple jumped 40-5.5 on Saturday, winning the women's triple jump by more than two and a half feet and falling just 2.75 inches shy of her own school record. Jones has won both of her triple jump competitions this season and sits atop the yearly Big South performance list at 40-8.25.

Jones also placed third in the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup long jump, thanks to an indoor personal-best leap of 18-6. She now ranks No. 10 in program history and No. 3 in the Big South this season for the long jump.

Waters was victorious in the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup men's pole vault with a personal-best 16-11 clearance. That effort ranks the Florida native No. 4 on Liberty's all-time list and puts him two feet ahead of his nearest competitor in the Big South this year.

The Flames will close out their inaugural season of competition at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex this Friday and Saturday, playing host to the Liberty Elite Invitational. The meet, which will feature a high-quality field of 11 teams, will begin Friday at 2 p.m. with the men's weight throw. Saturday's action will get started at 10 a.m. with the men's and women's long jump and women's pole vault.
