Tanner Ealum (left) and Carson Waters (right) each won Big South Conference weekly awards on Wednesday.
Thanks to impressive performances at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, freshman Tanner Ealum was named Big South Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and junior Carson Waters was tabbed Big South Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Ealum competed in three events on Saturday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex, placing second in both the 400 (season-best 56.53) and 4 x 400 relay (season-best 3:49.91) and 13th in her collegiate debut at the 200-meter distance (25.42).
The Alaska native's 400 time qualified her for the ECAC meet in a second event (also 4 x 400 relay). She ranks No. 1 on the Big South women's 400 list this season and sits seventh in program history for the event.
Waters' second career Big South weekly honor came after the Florida native pole vaulted 16-4.75 for the second straight week, taking the runner-up spot behind professional vaulter Scott Houston.
Waters, who will seek his first Big South title later this month, ranks first on the conference men's pole vault list by a foot and a half this season.
Both Ealum (60, 800, 4 x 400) and Waters (pole vault) are scheduled to compete in this weekend's Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup, Liberty's first road meet of the season. The team-scored competition will take place Friday and Saturday at Penn State's Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
