After a successful start to its 2016-17 indoor track & field season at the Liberty Kickoff, Liberty swept the Big South Conference's four weekly awards on Wednesday. The Flames' honorees included Jovaine Atkinson (Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week), Darrel Jones (Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week), Anna Van Wyk (Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week) and Janae Jones (Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week).

Both Darrel and Janae Jones are now four-time Big South Athletes of the Week for their respective careers, while Atkinson and Van Wyk were recognized for the first time.

Liberty's men's 60-meter hurdles record had stood at 8.08 seconds since 1999, before Atkinson broke it twice on Saturday. The redshirt freshman from Jamaica clocked a time of 8.07 in the prelims before improving to 7.94 while placing second in the final.

Atkinson is tied for No. 24 nationally for the men's 60 hurdles this season, including fourth among freshmen. He also ranks fourth all-time on the Big South list for the event.

Darrel Jones' first attempt of the men's triple jump competition measured 50-9.25, breaking the previous Liberty record of 50-6, set by Clarence Powell on Jan. 22, 2010. The junior, who placed second in the event, currently ranks No. 27 nationally this season and No. 2 in Big South Conference history.

Van Wyk opened her collegiate track & field career with a victory in the women's mile, posting a facility-record time of 4:53.88. The Minnesota native finished just 0.11 off of the Liberty freshman record and ranks No. 7 on Liberty's all-time list.

Janae Jones won the women's triple jump with a school-record leap of 40-8.25, taking down Jonisha Saunders' 40-7.75 effort from March 1, 2003. Jones, a redshirt senior, defeated reigning Big South indoor and outdoor women's triple jump champion Sabina Allen of Campbell and moved into sixth place on the conference's all-time list.

Liberty will play host to the third annual Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, Friday and Saturday at the Indoor Track Complex. Friday's action will begin at 5 p.m. with the men's 4 x 800 relay, while Saturday's events will get started with the men's weight throw at 9:30 a.m.

The Liberty Indoor Track Complex grand opening ceremony will take place Saturday at 10:30 a.m., just prior to the start of the day's running events.
