Alicia Finnigan was named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week.
After posting three individual event victories on Saturday at Florida Gulf Coast, Liberty sophomore Alicia Finnigan has been named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Finnigan is the first Lady Flame this season to be named CCSA Swimmer of the Week. On Oct. 11, Jenna Joyal was tabbed CCSA Women's Diver of the Week. Finnigan's award is the 20th weekly honor for the Liberty swimming & diving team in program history, including 16 Swimmer of the Week awards and four Diver of the Week mentions.
Hailing from Sugar Land, Texas, Finnigan had a standout meet for Liberty at Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. In addition to three individual event victories, Finnigan swam 54.91 for the third leg of the Lady Flames' winning 400 medley relay.
Finnigan won the 200 fly in 2:00.25, beating the defending CCSA 200 fly champion, Christina Kaas Elmgreen, by 3.35 seconds. Finnigan's 2:00.25 was the second fastest 200 fly by a CCSA swimmer this season, and fastest ever by a Lady Flame in a regular-season meet. She then earned a narrow win in the 500 freestyle, winning in 5:01.76. Her final event victory came in the 400 individual medley, as her season-best time of 4:26.14 outpaced the nearest competitor by 4.28 seconds.
The Lady Flames (5-2, 1-1 CCSA) return to action this Saturday, competing at UNC Asheville at 11 a.m. at the Justice Center Pool.
