With the fall season wrapped up for the Liberty women's tennis team, LFSN's Nick Pierce had a chance to reflect on the fall campaign with Liberty Head Women's Tennis Coach Jeff Maren.

The Lady Flames competed at six tournaments this fall and experienced a good deal of success. Liberty opens its spring slate on Feb. 1 against Longwood in Lynchburg.

2016 Fall Season Highlights

  • Junior Evangeline Crist and sophomore Anna Dollar became the first pair in Liberty women's tennis program history to reach the semifinals at the ITA Atlantic Regional. The pair won three matches at the regional from Oct. 15-17 at Old Dominion and went 9-3 in doubles this fall.
  • Crist and Dollar were invited to compete in the 2016 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships at Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. They were the first pair in program history to represent Liberty at the event and posted a 1-1 record.
  • The doubles squad of sophomores Rebekah Anderson and Aleksandra Panchenko won a title in the Maroon doubles flight at the season-opening Elon Fall Invitational, Sept. 9-11. The duo went 7-4 in doubles this fall.
  • Senior Mariely Hassey took third place in the B singles bracket at the Wake Forest Invitational. Hassey won a team-best five singles matches during her final fall campaign.
