Leah Clayton, the 2016 Big South Volleyball Freshman of the Year, was named to the Big South All-Tournament team.
After a career-best match in the 2016 Big South Volleyball Championship semifinal, Liberty freshman outside hitter Leah Clayton has been named to the Big South All-Tournament Team.
Clayton scored a career-high 26 kills and tied her career high with 19 digs in a five-set loss to No. 3 seed High Point in yesterday's semifinal. Her 26 kills were the most by a Lady Flame in any conference tournament match under the current 25-point rally-scoring format, which began in 2008.
Hosting the tournament for the first time since 2007, the Lady Flames (16-13) entered the event as the No. 2 seed after posting an 11-5 record in conference play. It marked Liberty's first semifinal appearance since competing in the 2013 semifinal against Radford.
Clayton is the first Lady Flame to be named to the Big South All-Tournament Team since Lillie Happel in 2013. She is also the seventh Liberty freshman, and first since Caroline Douglas in 2012, to earn conference all-tournament honors.
One day before the start of the Big South Volleyball Championship, Clayton was named the Big South Freshman of the Year. She was also voted to the Big South All-Conference first team and Big South All-Freshman team. Clayton averaged 4.07 kills per set and recorded seven 20-kill matches. She finished the season posting back-to-back matches with 25 kills or more.
Tournament champion High Point received three players on the All-Tournament team, led by Tournament MVP Haley Barnes. Two players from runner-up Radford made it on the team, while semifinalists Liberty and Campbell both received one selection. 2016 Big South Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team Haley Barnes, OH, Jr., High Point (Tournament MVP) Molly Livingston, MB, So., High Point Katie Tylman, MB, So., High Point Maddie Palmer, OH, Jr., Radford Haley Kleespies, S, So., Radford Leah Clayton, OH, Fr., Liberty Allena Heath, OH, Fr., Campbell
