The Game
The Liberty men's basketball team begins play at the Indiana Classic, travelling to Bloomington, Ind., to compete at No. 6/5 Indiana, Saturday at 7 p.m. The Flames and Hoosiers will meet for the first time on the hardwood on Saturday at Assembly Hall.

Liberty dropped a tight game against perennial Atlantic 10 power VCU, 64-59, on Tuesday at the Vines Center. The Hoosiers opened the Indiana Classic with a 100-78 win over UMass Lowell, Wednesday at Assembly Hall.

Matchup Notes
• Liberty will be looking for its first-ever win over an AP Top 25 team. The Flames' last meeting with a ranked opponent was Nov. 9, 2011, when Liberty fell at then No. 19 Texas A&M, 81-59. Indiana will be the highest-ranked team Liberty has faced since an 89-58 loss at then No. 3 Florida, Jan. 2, 2007.
• The Flames will also be searching their first win over a Big Ten program. Liberty is 0-3 against teams from the Big Ten, with the last meeting being a 69-53 loss at Northwestern, Nov. 24, 2009.

• Saturday's game at Indiana will by Liberty's lone road game in its first five contests, as four out of the team's first five games will be played at the Vines Center.
• 2016 Big South Coach of the Year Ritchie McKay is in his fourth year as head coach at Liberty, and second since returning to Lynchburg. In his time at Liberty (2007-09, 2015-present), McKay has posted a 53-48 overall record.
• The Flames average 9.5 three-pointers made per game so far, connecting at a .388 clip from downtown. Liberty's top three season totals for three-point field goals made have all come under fourth-year Head Coach Ritchie McKay.
John Dawson, named to the Preseason Big South Men's Basketball All-Conference first team, leads the Flames with a 14.5 points per game average. Dawson has gone 3-for-4 on three-pointers in each of Liberty's first two games.

• No. 6/5 Indiana will be the 13th AP Top 25 opponent in Liberty's program history. The closest Liberty has come to beating a ranked team was Feb. 13, 1996, when the Flames fell to then No. 10 Virginia Tech, 56-53, in Blacksburg, Va., after leading, 29-21 at halftime.
• Ritchie McKay is 1-1 all-time against Big Ten teams in his head coaching career. His New Mexico team defeated Penn State, 82-63, on Dec. 29, 2003, while he fell to Michigan, 87-80, Jan. 1, 2000 during his time at Colorado State.
• McKay has posted six wins over AP Top 25 teams in his 15 years as a Division I head coach. The highest ranked team that a Ritchie McKay coached team has beaten was then No. 8 Wichita State, which New Mexico defeated, 71-68, on Dec. 22, 2006.
