Brooke Turner finished 12th in the women's 4K at Friday's Hokie Open.
Brooke Turner closed out her freshman season with a 12th-place finish in the women's 4K, highlighting Liberty's performances at Friday's Hokie Open at Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.
The Lady Flames won one of their three duals on the day. Liberty tied Big South foe Radford, 28-28, but the Lady Flames prevailed on the tiebreaker. The Lady Flames also fell to host Virginia Tech (15-50) and Tennessee (17-38).
Turner clocked a 4K time of 14:56.1 for 12th place of 29 entrants. She was followed by fellow freshman Gabriella Delbo (14th, 15:02.0) and senior Jessie Proehl (19th, 15:23.5). All three of them finished in front of assistant coach Rebekah Ricksecker, who clocked 15:47.7 for 22nd place.
The Lady Flames' six competitors also included redshirt freshman Victoria Clinton (25th, 15:57.2), freshman Alexis Hinman (27th, 16:09.8) and redshirt freshman Elizabeth Hutton (28th, 17:12.1), who was making her collegiate debut.
Next up for Liberty cross country will be the 2016 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships, scheduled for Nov. 11 at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. The meet, which will determine the qualifiers for the 2016 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, will begin with the women's 6K at 11 a.m. The men's 10K will follow at noon.
