Liberty's Trey Turner (left) and Alex Probert (right) have been honored by the Big South following Liberty's overtime win over Gardner-Webb.

Alex Probert and Trey Turner played a role in Liberty's 23-20 overtime win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday and were honored early today for their efforts during the Big South victory.

Turner was named the Big South Special Teams Player of the Week, while Probert was selected the Big South Freshman of the Week.

Turner finished the game with five punts for 229 yards, averaging 45.8 yards per punt. He pinned the Runnin' Bulldogs inside their own 20-yard line with two of his five punts.

The junior recorded a 55-yard punt, his eighth punt of 50 or more yards this season. He has averaged 40 or more yards per punt in 18 of 32 career games played.

This is the second weekly Big South honor for Turner this season. He received the same honor following Liberty's contest at SMU when he had four of his five punts land inside the 20-yard line against the Mustangs.

Probert knocked down 3-of-4 field goal attempts during the game, including the game winning 34-yard field goal during the first overtime period.

Probert tied a season high with three field goals and has scored 10 or more points in each of his last four games (11 against Gardner-Webb). He has recorded multiple field goals in a game four times this season.

Probert currently ranked No. 5 in the country in field goals per game (1.5) and is tied for the national lead with most field goals by a freshman kicker – 12 (tied with Butler's Drew Bevelhimer and Indiana State's Jerry Nunez).

The award is also Probert's second of the season. He was named the Big South Special Teams Player of the Week following Liberty's road win at Kennesaw State.

The Flames will play their final road Big South game on the year this weekend when Liberty travels to Clinton, S.C., to face Presbyterian. Kickoff from Bailey Memorial Stadium is set for 2 p.m., where Liberty will look to push its win streak against the Blue Hose to eight in a row.
