A.C. Reid led the Flames with 17 points during a 24-minute scrimmage on Friday night.
Junior A.C. Reid recorded two of his team-high 17 points during the closing seconds of a scrimmage on Friday night, lifting the Liberty Red team to a 38-37 win inside the Vines Center.
Down two points with 2.6 seconds left, Liberty's red squad quickly got the ball to Reid who was fouled on a deep three-point field goal attempt. The forward knocked down his first two free throw attempts, being the scrimmage to a close.
Following the scrimmage, fans in attendance were encouraged stay for a meet-and-greet autograph session on the Vines Center concourse. The autograph session was the first time many of Liberty's students and members of Flames Nation were able to meet Liberty's eight new faces on the squad.
The Flames squared off against each other in a pair of 12-minute period with a running clock. The 24-minute scrimmage saw Liberty connect on 13 three-point field goals between the two teams.
Reid led the Red squad, scoring 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line. The junior shared game-high rebounding honors with newcomer Scottie James. The Bradley transfer, who will have to sit out this season, also scored nine points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field and a 2-of-2 performance from the free throw line.
Josiah Talbert, the younger brother of Ezra Talbert, scored seven points for the Red team in his first appearance in a Liberty uniform.
Liberty's blue-clad squad was paced by Erza Talbert's 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 performance from the charity stripe.
Caleb Homesley followed with eight points, aided by a pair of three-point field goals. Xzavier Barmore and Brock Gardner followed with a half dozen points, while Gardner led his team with four rebounds.
The Flames will officially tip off the 2016-17 season in two weeks when Liberty hosts Cairn University Highlanders in the Vines Center on Nov. 11. Tipoff for the second game in a men's and women's basketball doubleheader is slated for 8:30 p.m.
