Liberty will finish the fall portion of its 2016-17 schedule at the 12th annual Bridgestone Golf Collegiate, starting on Sunday.
The Flames, who are currently ranked No. 34 in the latest Golfstat national rankings, are one of 13 teams in the tournament field. The 54-hole event will be contested at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
The resort holds a place of significance in Liberty's program history. The Flames captured the 2012 NCAA Greensboro Regional title on the East Course of the Grandover Resort. The win propelled Liberty into the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Championship where the Flames finished in 10th place, marking the highest team finish at the national championship in program history.
The 12th annual Bridgestone Golf Intercollegiate will not be contested on the East Course, as several of the greens on the course are under repair. This year's tournament will be held on the West Course, a par-72, 6,800-yard layout.
This year's tournament field features nine teams currently ranked inside the top 100 in the country, including four top-40 programs.
The top-100 teams in the field include: No. 20 Duke, No. 32 Purdue, No. 34 Liberty, No. 38 Northwestern, No. 55 Virginia Tech, No. 62 N.C. State, No. 65 Iowa State, No. 91 Georgia State and No. 94 Utah.
The Flames are having one of their best fall seasons in program history. Liberty finished in second place at Duke's Rod Myers Invitational to open its fall slate, followed by fifth-place finishes in its last three events.
Earlier this week, Liberty finished in fifth place at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate, carding a 15-under par 849 (278-290-281) at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla. All but one of the teams in the 15-team tournament field ranked inside last week's top 100 national rankings.
Through four events this fall, Liberty has four golfers who hold a sub-par scoring average, helping Liberty post a 284.00 season stroke average. The Flames' program record for best fall stroke average is 290.75 set by the team in 2010.
Junior Mickey DeMorat paces the way for the Flames with a 70.91 season stroke average. He has played eight of his 11 rounds at par or better and has three top-10 finishes.
Junior Isaiah Logue and freshman Kieran Vincent both sport a 71.73 stroke average and have posted six of 11 rounds at par or better through four events.
Sophomore Gabe Lench rounds out Liberty's four under-par scorers this season with a 71.91 season stroke average and six rounds at par or better.
Tournament play gets under way on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start and 36 continuous holes of play. The event's final 18 holes of competition will be played on Monday, starting at 8:30 a.m. Live stats for the event will be provided by Golfstat.com.
