Liberty Welcomes UNC Asheville for Senior Day Match

The Liberty Lady Flames will host the UNC Asheville Bulldogs for a Big South match and Liberty's final regular season contest, Saturday at Osborne Stadium. Match time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Before the game, Liberty seniors, Lizz Kappler, Erika Troutman and Holly Van Noord will be honored as part of Senior Day ceremonies.

Liberty (9-7, 5-2 Big South) will enter the weekend, having won three straight contests, all shutouts. The Lady Flames defeated Radford, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon at Osborne Stadium for their latest clean sheet. Meanwhile, UNC Asheville (8-10, 3-5 Big South) defeated Winthrop, 1-0, on its Senior Day, Wednesday. The Bulldogs have won three of their last five contests.

A Look at Liberty
Liberty recorded its third consecutive shutout, downing the Radford Highlanders, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon in a Big South Conference match at Osborne Stadium. In addition, head coach Nate Norman's squad has won five out of their last six contests.

With the clean sheet, the Lady Flames have not allowed a goal during their last 313:57 of play and have now posted six shutouts this season.

Devon Jones netted her fourth goal of 2016 early in the first half and Isabella Habuda scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year early in the second half for Liberty in the victory.

Forward Gabrielle Farrell, who assisted on Jones' goal on Wednesday, leads the Lady Flames in points with 18 and assists with six. Habuda is next on the Liberty point list with 16 points.

Farrell is tied for second in the Big South Conference in points and is third in assists. The freshman is also tied for sixth in goals. With her goal on Wednesday, Habuda is tied for third in goals and tied for sixth in points.

With a goal and an assist on Wednesday, Devon Jones joins Jennifer Knoebel, Farrell and Habuda with a double-digit point total. Knoebel has collected 11 points, while Jones now has 10.

With her fifth shutout of the season, senior goalkeeper Holly Van Noord now leads the Big South Conference with a 0.92 goals-against average and with a .851 save percentage. Van Noord extended her Big South and Liberty shutout record to 38 on Wednesday.

A Look at UNC Asheville
Saturday's contest will be the last regular season contest for the Bulldogs.

UNC Asheville edged Winthrop, 1-0, with a goal off a free kick in the 57th minute, Wednesday. Midfielder Courtney Taber netted the game-winner for the Bulldogs.

Forward Caroline Houser leads Asheville in points with 14. Houser leads the Big South Conference in assists with eight and has scored three goals. Midfielder Paige Trent paces the Bulldogs with five goals.

Goalkeeper Keller Dixson has posted a 1.63 goals-against average and a .784 save percentage. She has played the majority of the season in the Bulldogs' net, logging over 1,300 minutes in the goal, this season.

The Series
UNC Asheville and Liberty will be meeting for the 28th time on Saturday. Liberty holds a 16-8-3 record in the all-time series. The Lady Flames are 8-0-3 against the Bulldogs in their last 10 meeting.

The Standings
Liberty enters the weekend in third place in the Big South standings with a 5-2 mark and two games left in conference play.

Gardner-Webb leads the conference with a 6-2 record and plays its final match of the regular season at home against Campbell, Saturday. High Point is in second in the standings with a 5-1-1 mark. The Panthers have two matches left and, like the Lady Flames, will conclude their season on Tuesday when they face Winthrop.

The top four teams in the Big South standings will host conference tournament quarterfinal matches next Sunday. The winners will move to Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C., for the semifinals and finals on Nov. 4 and Nov. 6.

A Look Ahead
Liberty will finish its 2016 regular season schedule with a Big South match at Charleston Southern, Tuesday at 3 p.m. The match-up with the Buccaneers was originally scheduled for Oct. 8, but was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew.
