Crist (pictured here) and Dollar advanced to the semifinals of the 2016 ITA Atlantic Regional Women's Tennis Championships with a win on Sunday.
Liberty women's tennis players Evangeline Crist and Anna Dollar made program history on Sunday, as they advanced to the semifinals of the 2016 ITA Atlantic Regional Women's Tennis Championships with a win in the quarterfinals.
They are the first pair in Liberty women's tennis program history to reach the semifinals at the ITA Atlantic Regional. Crist and Dollar, who were ranked No. 9 coming in, scored an 8-5 upset win over the No. 3 Maryland pairing of Ekaterina Tour and Arnelle Sullivan at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center at Old Dominion.
"Anna and Evangeline took this opportunity seriously and chose to raise their games at the right time. It just shows that we have the ability to play at a higher level than we've been playing," said head coach Jeff Maren. "It just requires a decision to strive for that ‘next level' and then believing that you can do it. Today we played at the next level. Hopefully it will be the first of many days like this."
The duo will take on Marshall's tandem of Derya Turhan and Anna Pomyatinskaya, also upsets winners on Sunday. The pair defeated Virginia's Rosie Johanson and Meghan Kelley.
The semifinal match is set for noon on Monday.
Crist also played well in Sunday's singles match against top-seeded and nationially-ranked Francesca Fusinato from Virginia, before losing, 6-4, 7-5.
Two days of tournament play remain. On Monday, it will be quarterfinals of singles, semifinals of doubles and finals of doubles. On Tuesday, both the semifinals and finals of singles will be played.
