With a pair of doubles wins on Saturday, women's tennis players Evangeline Crist and Anna Dollar became the second Liberty duo in as many years to reach the quarterfinals at the 2016 ITA Atlantic Regional Women's Tennis Championships, hosted by Old Dominion.
Last year, Crist and Valerie Thong reached the quarters for the first time in program history. On Saturday morning, Crist and Dollar earned an 8-4 win over James Madison's Emma Petersen and Jona Roka in the round of 16.
Later in the morning, Crist and Dollar reached the quarterfinals by topping Navy's Emily Louie-Meadors and Claudia Mackenzie, 8-4, at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
"Anna and Evangeline continue to prove that they are a formidable team together," stated head coach Jeff Maren. "Playing well at All-Americans and now at Regionals will bolster their confidence in their ability to win big matches."
Crist, a junior, also won her singles match, 6-1, 6-0, over Longwood's Jamie Breunig. In other singles action, sophomore Aleksandra Panchenko bested Carlee Conway of Navy, 6-2, 6-4.
Panchenko and fellow sophomore Rebekah Anderson faced a formidable tandem in doubles, Virginia's Rosie Johanson and Meghan Kelly. The Liberty duo led for most of the match before losing, 8-4.
