Max Borcuti and the Flames play at the ITA Atlantic Regional beginning on Thursday.
2016 ITA Qualifying Draw
The Liberty Flames men's tennis team begins play at the ITA Atlantic Regional Tournament, hosted by Virginia Tech, on Thursday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Seven Liberty players – Max Borcuti, Chase Burton, Diego Castano, Eddie Gutierrez, Ryker Heller, Alex Poynter and Vince Salas – will compete at the tournament in Blacksburg, Va.
Singles qualification begins on Thursday. Borcuti, Heller and Poynter begin play in qualification, while Burton, Castano, Gutierrez and Salas begin in the main draw on Friday.
Main draw doubles will begin first on Friday, followed by main draw singles later in the day. Tournament play will wrap up on Monday.
Liberty History at the Event This will be the seventh consecutive year the Flames will compete at the ITA Atlantic Regional.
Last season, Sam Matheson and Egon Samaai both reached the main draw singles round of 32.
Last Time Out The Flames sent three players, Salas, Burton and Gutierrez, to the Tulsa ITA Saint Francis All-American in Tulsa, Okla., on Oct. 1. Salas collected one win in two matches, while Burton and Gutierrez gave their opponents tough matches.
Liberty last competed as a collective unit at the Elon Fall Invitational, Sept. 23-24.
A Look Ahead Following the event, Liberty will play at the NC State Invite from Oct. 21-23 in Raleigh, N.C.
