Liberty freshman men's tennis player Vince Salas picked up a win at the Tulsa Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships over the weekend.

Salas, along with sophomore Eddie Gutierrez and Chase Burton, represented the Flames at the tournament.

The Angeles, Phillipines native won his first match, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4, over Illinois State's Andreas Boers in Saturday's pre-qualifying draw. Salas was defeated by Texas' Colin Markes in three sets (6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-2) later in the day.

Gutierrez dropped his opening match, 6-2, 6-3, to Indiana's Keivon Tabrizi. Burton fell to Illinois' Alex Jesse, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (6).

"Matches out here are tough. We competed hard and are progressing well," said head coach Chris Johnson. "I'm looking forward to practice this week with regionals coming up."

Liberty plays at the ITA Mid-Atlantic Regional, hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., from Oct. 14-17.
