Liberty will begin a busy month of October this weekend when the Flames participate in the Marquette Intercollegiate in River Hills, Wis.

The two-day, 54-hole event is the first of four tournaments the Flames will participate in during October. The tournament is hosted by Marquette at the Milwaukee Country Club (par 72, 7,097 yards).

This is the fourth year in a row Marquette has hosted a collegiate golf tournament. The previous three events were contested at Erin Hill Golf Club, a venue that is currently closed as it prepares to host the 2017 U.S. Open.

The Milwaukee Country Club was rated as the No. 62 golf course in the country in Digest's Top 100 U.S. Golf Courses for 2015-16. The course has hosted the 1903 Western Open, 1969 Walker Cup, 1988 U.S. Senior Amateur and the 2008 U.S. Mid-Amateur.

The Flames enter the event coming off a second-place finish at the Rod Myers Invitational, Sept. 10-11, at The Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C.

Liberty finished second in the 14-team field with a 12-under par 852 (286-284-282). The 12-under par 852 marked the ninth-best, 54-hole team total in program history.

The Flames' second-place play was aided by freshman Kieran Vincent claiming individual medalist honors. The rookie carded a 15-under par 201 (67-67-67) and won the event by six strokes over Wake Forest's Will Zalatoris (65-72-70) and Florida State's Christobal Del Solar (70-71-66).

Junior Mickey DeMorat followed behind Vincent, finishing in 10th place with a 1-under par 215 (71-70-74). The outing marked the third time DeMorat has finished a collegiate event under par for the Flames since joining the roster last fall.

Liberty's remaining starting five at the Rod Myers Invitational – Hutson Chandler, Gabe Lench and Isaiah Logue – each finished tied for 45th place with a 7-over par 223.

Four of Liberty's starting five will remain the same at the Marquette Intercollegiate. Junior Payton Taylor will replace Chandler in the Flames' starting five, while junior Tyler Abrahamsen will complete as an individual.

Play for the Marquette Intercollegiate gets underway on Sunday with 36 holes of continuous play, followed by Monday's final round.

The 10-team field includes five teams which finished inside the top 75 of the final 2015-16 Golfstat team rankings: SMU (No. 46), UCLA (No. 52), Northwestern (No. 56), Liberty (No. 62) and Ole Miss (No. 68).
