Liberty Hosts Undefeated George Washington, Sunday

Riding a three-game win streak, the Liberty women's soccer team returns to Osborne Stadium, Sunday at 4 p.m. The Lady Flames will welcome the undefeated George Washington Colonials, who are just one week removed from a 1-0 victory over then No. 17 Arkansas.

The meeting marks the fifth time in six years the two squads have faced each other, with the series currently knotted at 2-2. The Colonials have taken the last two contests, which includes a 1-0 win two seasons ago at Osborne Stadium (Sept. 7, 2015) and a 3-0 victory at GWU Soccer field, last season (Sept. 17, 2015).

Sunday's matchup is also the second half of a soccer double header, as the Flames host Buffalo at 1 p.m.

A Look at Liberty
The Liberty women's soccer team earned its third straight win, Thursday night, defeating the UNCG Spartans at UNCG Soccer Stadium, 1-0.

Lady Flames' freshman midfielder Anna Roach posted the lone goal of the contest near the end of the first half, receiving assists from redshirt sophomore midfielder Abigail Persson and freshman forward Gabrielle Farrell. The marker for Roach was her first collegiate goal.

With the win, Liberty moved to 3-3 on the season, while the Spartans fell to 3-3-1.

After securing the Big South record for career shutouts on Sunday, Holly Van Noord added to her total with her 35th clean sheet. The redshirt senior collected three saves on the night and now has 335 for her career. The Big South Defensive Player of the Week needs five more to surpass former teammate Karen Blocker (2008-12, 339 saves) for the No. 2 spot on Liberty's all-time career saves list. Van Noord leads the Big South in saves with 38 on the season.

Five Lady Flames have one goal apiece this year – Farrell, junior forward Isabella Habuda, Persson, Roach and junior defender Sami Santos. Farrell is the reigning Big South Freshman of the Week after posting Liberty's game-winning goal in the 85th minute of its 1-0 victory over JMU, this past Sunday. Freshman forward Sierra Lam was credited with the assist on the play, helping give the Lady Flames their first-ever victory over the Dukes. Lam and Persson are currently pacing Liberty with two assists each.
