Blue Team Earns 3-1 Win in Blue-White Scrimmage

The Liberty volleyball team held its annual Blue-White Scrimmage, Tuesday night at the Vines Center. It provided fans a first look at the 2016 squad.

In the team's final scrimmage prior to the start of the 2016 regular season, the Blue Team defeated the White Team, 3-1 (25-22, 26-28, 25-18, 25-18). Due to the size of the team's roster, a few players changed teams in between sets.

Freshman Leah Clayton led all players with 24 kills for the White Team, while junior Gabrielle Vess totaled 17 kills, nine digs and three blocks. Payton Carter scored 10 kills, to go with nine digs and two service aces. Hannah Morris dished out 44 assists, while Anna Willey added 35 assists. Sirena Vorster led with five blocks.

Margaret Latchford contributed 24 digs and three aces, while Casey Goodwin posted a match-high four aces. Sydney Morris collected 14 digs, and Anna Gragg registered 10 kills.

The Lady Flames begin their season this Friday at 5 p.m. in Kennesaw, Ga., as Liberty opens the 2016 Kennesaw State Invitational by taking on Pittsburgh. Then, on Saturday, Liberty will face the host Kennesaw State Owls, along with the Missouri Tigers.
