After spending the 2015 season as a catcher in the Arizona League, Alex Close, a two-time Big South All-Conference first team performer at first base, has moved to the mound this summer.
The Kansas City Royals farmhand is currently a relief pitcher for the Burlington Royals, who sport the best record in the Appalachian League standings. Close, who posted six saves and a 2.21 ERA as Liberty's closer in 2015, has appeared in 11 contests for the Royals' Rookie League team. The right-hander has a posted a 1-0 record with a 1.50 ERA in 18 innings.
LFSN's Nick Pierce had a chance to sit down with Close during Burlington's recent visit to Danville, Va., to catch up with the former Liberty standout.
