2016-17 Men's Golf Schedule
The fall portion of the 2016-17 Liberty men's golf schedule will feature five events, including three new tournaments to the program's normal fall rotation.
Liberty Men's Golf Head Coach Jeff Thomas, who is entering his 13th season at the helm of the program, released the fall portion of the team's schedule earlier this week.
Liberty finished the 2015-16 season ranked No. 62 in the final Golfstat national rankings. Liberty won the 2016 Big South Men's Golf Championship, claiming its fourth conference title in six years.
The Flames also advanced to the NCAA Albuquerque Regional in Albuquerque, N.M., the program's fifth regional appearance in the last six seasons and seventh in program history.
For the second consecutive season, the Flames will open their schedule at the Rod Myers Invitational, Sept. 9-10. The event is hosted by Duke at The Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
The first of three new events for Liberty will kick off a busy October slate when the Flames participate in the Marquette Invitational, Oct. 2-3. Marquette will host the event at the Milwaukee Country Club in River Hills, Wis.
The Flames will make a return trip to the Tar Heel Intercollegiate on Oct. 8-9 at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. Liberty was slated to compete in the event last year, but the North Carolina event was cancelled due to the rains associated with Hurricane Joaquin.
Liberty will travel to the "Sunshine State" on Oct. 24-25 for the Quail Valley Intercollegiate. McNeese State will serve as the host for the tournament which will be contested at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
The Flames will wrap up the fall portion of their schedule on Oct. 30-31 at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. UNCG will host the event at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
The Grandover Resort served as the host course for the 2012 NCAA Greensboro Regional, an event Liberty won by three strokes over Florida and six over strokes over Auburn. The regional win allowed Liberty to advance to the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., where the team finished in 10th place.
