The Liberty men's basketball team is headed to Costa Rica next week. The Flames will depart on Aug. 8 and return home on Aug. 13. During their stay the team will visit the cities of San Jose and Los Suenos, where they will compete in three exhibition games, take part in community service and enjoy the sights and sounds of the country.

LFSN's Alan York had a chance to catch up with head coach Ritchie McKay, who previewed the trip and also discussed the team's offseason chemistry.

Every four years, the NCAA permits teams to embark on a foreign tour and gain experience by competing against international teams in exhibition games. Leading up to the trip, teams are allowed 10 practices.

During their trip, the Flames will compete against a pair of Canadian teams, the University of Ottawa and Brock University, as well as Costa Rica Invitational.

The team will also visit Holy Spirit Orphanage of Costa Rica, which features a homeless shelter, food bank, health center, small animal farm, clothing resource store and educational center. In addition to their community service, the Flames will tour the cities of San Jose and Los Suenos.

LibertyFlames.com will provide coverage each day of the trip, including blog posts and photo galleries. LFSN's Game On crew will also be on the scene, producing videos that will document each day of the Flames' trip.
