Liberty redshirt senior David Scouten has been voted to the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America® NCAA Division I Men's Track & Field/Cross Country third team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier today.

Scouten becomes the third and final Liberty student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors this year, joining Natalie Beale (women's swimming & diving) and Ashley Rininger (women's basketball).

Scouten is the sixth CoSIDA NCAA Division I Academic All-American® in Liberty men's track & field/cross country history, including the fourth in the past three years. The Flames' previous honorees include Jacob DeValve (2014), Caleb Edmonds (2014), Clendon Henderson (2008), Daniel Newell (2009) and John Sherret (2015).

A native of Brooklyn, Mich., Scouten graduated in May with a double major in criminal justice and accounting, finishing with a 3.95 GPA. He was Liberty's male nominee for the Big South Conference's George A. Christenberry Award for Academic Excellence.

Scouten earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive year in 2016. He was additionally named to the 2016 Big South All-Academic team for men's indoor track & field, earning the third All-Academic nod of his career.

Scouten placed second in three different Big South event finals as a senior, including the indoor weight throw and the outdoor discus and hammer, finishing his career as a 13-time All-Big South performer. Scouten also came in sixth in the IC4A men's weight throw competition.

Scouten wrapped up his collegiate career ranked among Liberty's career top 10 in five events. These include the indoor weight throw (sixth, 62-9.5), outdoor hammer (seventh, 191-5), indoor shot put (eighth, 53-10.5), outdoor shot put (ninth, 52-10.75) and outdoor discus (ninth, 168-0).
