2016 Young Women's National Championship selections
Field hockey's Abby Julius has been selected to compete at Young Women's National Championship as announced by the United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA) earlier this week.
The Young Women's National Championship serves as a high level, international structured competition and the selection venue for the 2016-17 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team.
The Young Women's National Championship takes place in Lancaster, Pa., at Spooky Nook Sports, the home of USFHA. The event will be held June 28 to July 3.
"I'm very excited that I've been given the opportunity to compete in the Young Women's National Championship," said Julius. "There are a lot of great players in this tournament, and it is always fun playing with them at such high level. I'm looking forward to being a part of it and being able to represent Liberty."
Julius, a rising sophomore on Liberty's 2016 field hockey roster, is the second player in program history to be selected to compete in the Young Women's National Championship. She joins Rachel Suter, who received an invitation in 2015.
Julius saw playing time in all 16 games as a freshman in 2015, starting 15 contests. The native of Hummelstown, Pa., finished the year ranked eighth on the team in scoring with 10 points (three goals, four assists). The forward recorded 16 shots, nine of which were shots on goal (56.2 percent).
Julius helped the Lady Flames finish the 2015 season with a 12-6 record. Liberty knocked off two nationally ranked teams during the season and finished the year ranked No. 14 in the final NFHCA poll.
After competing during the 2015 season as an independent, Liberty will begin its first season as an affiliate member of the BIG EAST Conference in 2016.
