Liberty Men's Basketball Head Coach Ritchie McKay has announced the signing of Ray Chen to attend Liberty University for the 2016-17 academic year.
"We had a really good experience with a graduate transfer in Anthony Fields and his contribution to our program," McKay stated. "Based on the relationship we've been able to establish with Ray, we're really excited about his addition to our program. He brings a wealth of experience, both domestically and internationally and is a terrific representative of his family."
Chen, a 6-1 combo guard from Miaoliq, Taiwan, comes to Liberty after playing three seasons for Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina. At Belmont Abbey, Chen earned all-conference honors during his junior year, finishing his tenure with 1084 points. This past season, Chen led the Crusaders with 16 points and 3.5 assists per game. He was also named the 2015-16 Impact Athlete of the Year for Belmont Abbey Athletics.
Chen graduated from Belmont Abbey in May and will be eligible with the Flames for the 2016-17 season. Prior to his time with the Crusaders, Chen played high school basketball at Gaston Day School (Gastonia, N.C.).
