Introducing Field Hockey Newcomer, Allison Schaefer

Allison Schaefer joins the 2016 Liberty Field Hockey squad after competing as a two-year starter for the Penn Manor varsity field hockey squad.

Schaefer was twice named to the Section 1 All-Star squad in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. The Pennsylvania goalkeeper was also a member of the 2015 Lancaster-Lebanon All-League squad. Schaefer has also twice been named to the Pennsylvania All-State first team. Schaefer led her squad to the Pennsylvania State Championship in 2014 and is a four-time Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 champion.

Schaefer competed for the Nook Hockey Club from 2010-16 and was recognized as a Junior Olympics silver medalist in 2013. The Nook Hockey Club was ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Hockey. Schaefer participated in the National Indoor Tournament from 2013-16 and was a U16 National Indoor Tournament Gold Medalist in 2013. The Pennsylvania native was a Disney Field Hockey Showcase participant from 2012-14 and then in 2015 was named a Futures Elite Participant.

Schaefer excels both on and off the field, accumulating a GPA of 4.34 and being named to the Golden Honor Roll all four years at Penn Manor. Schaefer was also named to the Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Academic squad and was tabbed as a 2015 NFHCA National Academic Squad Scholar of Distinction.

Why did you choose Liberty?
"I chose Liberty because of how different it is from other campuses I had visited. The first time I came to Liberty, I immediately felt like part of the field hockey family even though I was just a recruit at the time. They made me feel at home, and their love for Christ and their desire to worship Him through their playing really made me want to be a part of the program."

What was your favorite thing about Liberty's campus?
"I love how you can just look out of a window at dusk and see the mountains with the sun setting in the background. The beauty of the campus is a constant reminder of God's amazing creation."

What is your goal coming in to Liberty?
"My goal is to be able to put everything I have into growing in Christ, training in field hockey and learning as much as I can so that I am able to positively influence the world after I leave here. And of course, to win a national championship!"

Head Coach Jodi Murphy on Schaefer:
"We are very excited to have Allison start her Liberty field hockey career. We have had the pleasure of knowing Allison since her freshmen year of high school and we have seen her grow a lot since that time. She is a strong goalkeeper with great experiences having played at a high level with her club and high school program."
