The Liberty baseball team opened a new era this afternoon, as the Flames began fall practice at Worthington Stadium. Under the guidance of a new coaching staff, led by head coach Jim Toman, the Flames practiced for the first time as a full team, Friday.

"We are very excited to get started," stated Toman. "We are looking forward to a good fall and sorting things out for the upcoming season. The guys have been working hard and this fall, we hope to determine where we stand as team."

Currently, Liberty has 37 players participating in fall practices, including 19 Flames who saw action in 2006. The squad also welcomes back several players, who sat out all or part of last season due to injury, including right-handed pitchers Dane Beakler and Clarence Nicely and middle infielder Tommy Bussey.

Fall practice will run through Oct. 21. The team will train six days a week during the fall with Mondays off. Practice will culminate with Liberty's five-game "World Series," Oct. 16-21 at Worthington Stadium.
