After finishing the regular season with a 10-10 overall record, including 4-4 in Big South action, the Liberty Flames tennis team garnered the No. 5 seed for the upcoming 2016 Big South Men's Tennis Championship.
Liberty will square off against No. 4 seed Gardner-Webb in the quarterfinal round on April 14 at 2 p.m. The Runnin' Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 10-11 overall record, including 4-4 in conference play. Gardner-Webb earned the No. 4 seed despite a three-way tie with Liberty and Winthrop. The Runnin' Bulldogs bested both teams in the head-to-head matchups this season, including a defeat of Liberty by the final score of 4-3 on April 1 in Lynchburg, Va.
Coastal Carolina earned the No. 1 seed after finishing the regular season with an undefeated 8-0 conference mark, winning its second consecutive regular-season title and sixth in program history.
Presbyterian garners the No. 2 seed following its 6-2 Big South finish, while UNC Asheville (6-2) is the No. 3 seed due to losing the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Blue Hose.
Gardner-Webb, Liberty and defending champion Winthrop tied for fourth, with the Runnin' Bulldogs receiving the No. 4 seed. Liberty takes the fifth seed, while Winthrop draws the No. 6 seed as the Flames bested the Eagles by the final score of 5-2 on March 22 in Lynchburg, Va.
Campbell lands the No. 7 seed following its 3-5 conference season, with Radford earning the No. 8 seed after finishing 1-7 in the league this year. Longwood rounds out the seedings at No. 9 after recording an 0-8 record in conference play.
The 2016 Big South Men's Tennis Championship begins Wednesday, April 13 with one first round match and concludes with the championship contest on Saturday, April 16. The Big South's tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship, which begins on May 12.
