Liberty bounced back after dropping game one, registering a season-high 13 runs in a 13-1, five-inning victory over Hampton, Thursday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
Liberty (18-16) split doubleheaders on back-to-back days, going 1-1 at Virginia Tech last night before splitting a pair of games with Hampton (12-17) today. The Lady Flames outhit Hampton, 14-4, in game two.
Lady Flame Deidra See went 3-for-3 with a home run, five RBI and three runs scored. She homered in both games, and her five RBI in game two were the most by a Lady Flame in a game this year. Sarah Robertson went 3-for-4 with a double, a career-high three RBI and two runs scored. Jaclyn Amader batted 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Alexia Taylor went 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Kassidy McCoy hit 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Danielle Budden batted 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI for Hampton, while Taylor McCoy doubled.
Chase Cassady (7-6) earned the win, tossing her fifth complete game of the season. She allowed one run on four hits, striking out six and walking four.
Jada Fields (4-6) drew the loss, giving up three runs on four hits, walking two in one inning of work. Kial Watts allowed 10 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits with two walks in three innings pitched.
The Lady Flames wasted no time, scoring three runs during their first time up. With one out, Robertson singled and Madison Kotchey drew a walk. After a popout, See hit an RBI single. Kassidy McCoy then drove a two-run double into the gap in left-center field for a 3-0 cushion.
Cassady walked Taylor McCoy to start the second, but struck out the next three batters.
Liberty continued its hot hitting, putting up six runs on six hits to take a commanding 9-0 lead after two innings. Amader doubled to lead off, and Tori Zavodny reached on a bunt single. Robertson then hit a two-run double. Taylor plated Robertson with a double, and See made it 7-0 when she singled to left center. Cassie Gingerich dropped a single into left field, plating a pair for a 9-0 advantage.
Hampton scored once during the top of the third. Watts hit a leadoff single, and Lorena Alvarez drew a walk. With one out, Budden drove an RBI double to left, but Alvarez was thrown out at home trying for a second Lady Pirate run.
The hosts rallied after two outs during the third stanza. Kotchey and Taylor hit back-to-back singles, before See unloaded with a towering blast to left that pushed the lead to 12-1.
Taylor McCoy doubled to lead off the Hampton fourth, but Cassady bore down, getting the next three batters on a flyout and two strikeouts.
Robertson gave Liberty a baker's dozen on the scoreboard with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.
Cassady worked around a two-out single in the top of the fifth, nailing down the five-inning victory.
The Lady Flames return to conference play next week, starting with a midweek series at defending Big South champion Longwood. Liberty and Longwood will contest a doubleheader on Tuesday at 3 p.m., before meeting for a single game, Wednesday at 3 p.m.
