With Liberty's spring football practice well underway, LFSN reporter Alan York recently had a chance to talk with junior quarterback Stephon Masha about spring workouts.
Masha played in eight of Liberty's 11 games during the 2015 season, finishing the year completing 2-of-3 passing attempts for 11 yards and rushing eight times for 62 yards.
During the 2014 season, Masha started two games for the Flames. The quarterback guided Liberty's offense during the Flames' upset of No. 1 Coastal Carolina, his second start of the season, completing 20-of-33 passing attempts for 285 yards and a touchdown.
In three seasons, the native of Marietta, Ga., has played in 18 career games and has completed 44-of-69 passing attempts for 537 yards and five touchdowns.
Masha, along with fellow junior Bo Swanson and freshman Rudiger Yearick, are the three quarterbacks in spring practice vying to replace four-year starting quarterback Josh Woodrum. Woodrum finished his career as Liberty's all-time leading passer with 10,266 passing yards and 61 touchdowns.
The Flames will have three practice sessions during the next three days, starting with tonight's practice from 6:45 to 9:30 p.m. Liberty will also practice on Friday (4:20 to 6:40 p.m.) and Saturday (2:30 to 4:15 p.m.) to wrap up its second week of spring practice.
