1. Liberty opens Big South Conference play, this weekend. The Flames will host UNC Asheville for a three-game series, Thursday- Saturday Liberty was picked to finished third in the conference's preseason poll.

 
2. For the 10th time in its 26 years as a member of the Big South Conference, Liberty will start conference play at home, after beginning league play at Radford, last season. It is the third time in the past three years, the Flames have started Big South Conference play at home.
 
3. This weekend's series with UNC Asheville is the last of four straight weekends that the Flames have hosted a home series. Liberty has posted an 8-4 record at Liberty Baseball Stadium, this season.
 
4. Liberty is 39-32 all-time in Big South opening three-game series.  In the nine times that  Liberty has opened conference play at home, it has posted a 19-7 mark.
 
5. Liberty left-hander Victor Cole was named the Big South Pitcher of the Week for games played March 14-20.  Cole pitched a complete game, striking out 11 in a 4-2 Liberty win over Kent State, last Saturday.
 
Flames in Big South Openers

Player Notes
• 1B/OF Andrew Yacyk went 5-for-6 in his return to his home state of Maryland, Tuesday. The 
Hagerstown, Md., native drove in three runs, setting a new career-high for hits at Maryland.
 
• Yacyk belted his fifth home run of the season against Kent State, this past Sunday. The OF/1B leads the Flames with 24 RBI.
 
• Freshman CF Jack Morris and 3B Josh Barrick each hit the first home run of their careers, Tuesday night at Maryland.
 
• Morris collected two hits, three RBI and scored twice in the contest. Morris' home run in the fourth plated three runs, his first RBI as a Flame.
 
• Barrick's first career home run was also a three-run shot. The 3B had two hits, three RBI and scored twice in the game.
 
• 2B Andrew Kowalo reached base in all five of his plate appearances, Tuesday at Maryland. Kowalo had two hits, was hit by a pitch twice and walked in the contest. 
 
• LHP Victor Cole was named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week for games played March 14-20. The senior went the distance for the first time this season in a 4-2 win over Kent State in game one of a doubleheader, last Saturday. Cole struck out a career-high 11 batters and retired the last 13 of 14 and the last seven Golden Flashes to face him.
 
 • SS Dalton Britt started his 200th consecutive game in the first game of Liberty's doubleheader against Kent State, this past Saturday.
 
• Britt has now started 203 straight games. The  senior has started every Liberty contest since joining the Flames in 2012. 
 
• OF D.J. Artis and Britt had three hits apiece at Virginia Tech, March 15.  Artis posted his ninth multiple-hit game this season in the contest. The Flames' leadoff man doubled, scored three times and drove in two runs. Britt hit his first home run of the year, had two doubles and drove in four runs, tying a career-high.
 
• Artis leads the Flames with a .388 batting average, 33 hits, 22 walks, 21 runs scored and .523 on base percentage. 
 
• RHP Evan Mitchell pitched his second complete game in as many outings, this past Friday against Kent State. Mitchell struck out a career-high eight in the contest.
 
• In his second start of the season, Mitchell allowed just one unearned run, while limiting CCSU to five hits over the full nine innings to not only record his first victory in a Flames uniform, but his first complete game on March 11. He struck out a six batters and walked one in the contest.
 
• Mitchell leads the Flames with a 0.94 ERA.
 
• DH Nick Walker went 3-for-3 with a walk in game two of Liberty's doubleheader with Kent State, 
this past Saturday.
 
• OF Will Shepherd had four hits in Liberty's win at Virginia Tech, tying career-highs, March 15.  Shepherd also had a career-high five RBI and two of his four hits were doubles in the game.
 
• C Payton Scarbrough collected two hits and hit his second home run of the season at Virginia Tech, March 15. He doubled and had three RBI.
 
• RHP Shane Quarterley leads the Flames in appearances with 10.  On March 15 at Virginia Tech, he pitched five innings of scoreless of relief in the 22-7 Liberty win.
 
• Quarterley recorded the victory with three scoreless innings of relief in a 5-3 win over Evansville, March 12. The RHP then earned the save by not allowing a run over the final two innings, his third, in a 5-2
victory over Evansville on Sunday.
