The Liberty Lady Flames field hockey squad made tremendous strides on the field this season in just its fifth season as a program. On Dec. 8, 2015 Liberty became a member of the Big East Conference after finishing the regular season as an independent squad with a 12-6 record. Not only did they experience success on the field, but the Lady Flames also made impressive marks in the classroom during the fall semester.
The Lady Flames received the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Liberty was one of 63 Division I field hockey programs to earn this distinction.
Additionally, 16 Lady Flames were named to the Division I National Academic Squad (see full list below). Liberty was one of nine teams in the country to have 16 or more players named to the squad. Four players, Natalie Barr, Serena Barr, Olivia Carroll and Erin Dombach were honored as Division I Scholars of Distinction for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher. Liberty was one of five programs to have four or more players honored as scholars of distinction, joining Bucknell, Missouri State, Ohio State and Saint Francis.
