Liberty men's basketball head coach Ritchie McKay has announced that sophomore center Evan Maxwell and freshman guard Hansel Atencia will transfer at the conclusion of the 2015-16 academic year.
"We are thankful for the time we got to spend with both Hansel and Evan and look forward to following their careers as they pursue their individual goals," McKay stated.
Following his freshman year in which he averaged just over two points a game, Maxwell broke out this season, finishing the year second on the team in points (10.0 ppg) and rebounds (4.8 rpg). Maxwell paced the Flames in field goal percentage (63.7), landing as high as No. 2 on the NCAA statistical rankings during the first half of the season. The Clarks Summit, Pa., native had four 20-point games on the year, including a career-high 24 points at Radford on Dec. 3.
Atencia appeared in 19 games this season. In his collegiate debut, Atencia recorded a season-high seven points in Liberty's season-opening win over Covenant. The Colombia born player concluded the year averaging 1.5 points per game.
