Madison Kotchey was named Big South Player of the Week, Monday.
Following a standout opening weekend in Big South play, Liberty sophomore Madison Kotchey has been named Big South Softball Player of the Week.
Kotchey, a native of Hummelstown, Pa., earns her first Player of the Week award. She joins teammates Alexia Taylor (Player of the Week - Feb. 15) and Chase Cassady (Pitcher of the Week – March 14) as Lady Flames to earn weekly honors this season.
The sophomore first baseman had a dominant week at the plate during a 3-0 series sweep of Winthrop. She hit .500 with three doubles, two homers, five RBI, four runs scored, a 1.400 slugging percentage and .583 on-base percentage. All five of her hits went for extra bases. In just four games played this season, she has hit .583 with three doubles, two homers, seven RBI and six runs scored.
During both games of Friday's doubleheader, she went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. She set a season high with three RBI during game one on Friday. Then, Kotchey drove in two runs and scored twice in a 7-0 game-two victory. On Saturday, she batted 1-for-4 with a double and one run scored as Liberty completed the series sweep, 5-3.
The Lady Flames (14-13, 3-0 Big South), off to their best start in conference play since 2006, head on the road for 11 out of their next 13 games. Liberty travels to South Carolina this week, playing a doubleheader at Coastal Carolina on Friday at 4 p.m., before playing a single game against the Chanticleers, Saturday at 2 p.m.
