The Flames will start their Spring Break in Athens, Ga., next Monday, when they participate in the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
The one-day, 36-hole event will be contested at the Athens Country Club (par 72, 6,917 yards) in the second year of the event's return.
The tournament started in 1935 and ran annually from 1935-46, 1946-65 and 1975-1990. Previous individual tournament winners include Wake Forest graduate Arnold Palmer (1950), Oklahoma State's Bob Tway (1979) and Centenary's Hal Sutton (1980).
The Bulldogs claimed the team title in the event's return last year, carding a 1-under par 575 (285-290). Georgia finished 13 strokes ahead of Georgia State (12-over par 588/294-294) and 17 strokes clear of Augusta (16-over par 592/286-306).
This year's Southern Intercollegiate Championships 14-team field is led by tournament host Georgia, who is ranked No. 2 in the country in the latest Golfstat weekly rankings.
Joining the Bulldogs as the top ranked teams in this year's field includes Arkansas (No. 27), Augusta (No. 36), Kennesaw State (No. 54) and Liberty (No. 55).
The last time the Flames played in a scheduled 36-hole team event was in 2008 when Liberty participated in the 29th Annual ODU/Seascape Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 27-28).
The Flames will have six golfers compete in the event, five team players, as well as one of the tournament's eight individuals.
Mickey DeMorat paced the Flames at their last event, finishing in 15th place earlier this week at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. He fired a 3-over par 213 (73-73-67), closing with his fourth sub-70 round of the spring. He ranks second on the team with a 72.71 season stroke average.
Liberty is led by Isaiah Logue, who has played 10 of 24 rounds this season at par or better and leads the team with a 71.88 season stroke average. The sophomore has posted a top 10 finish in four out of eight events.
Payton Taylor (74.13), Gabe Lench (74.29) and Hutson Chandler (74.83) rank third through fifth on the team's roster this year in season stroke average.
Play gets underway on Monday from 8:30 to 10:06 a.m., with groups being sent of the No. 1 and No. 10 tees to start 36 holes of continuous play.
