Welcome Back
Riley Brandon will compete in a Liberty uniform for the first time in more than a year, after redshirting the 2015 outdoor season and the 2015-16 indoor campaign. The redshirt senior is entered in three of the seven heptathlon disciplines this weekend, including the 800, shot put and javelin. A native of Carrollton, Texas, Brandon is a three-time Big South multi-event champion.

Fresh Faces
The Coastal Carolina Invitational will mark the Liberty track & field debut for freshmen Robert Detz (shot put, discus) and Denzel Pratt (javelin) and the outdoor debut for junior Catherine Oyarzun (hammer).

Detz was a back-to-back New York state shot put champion in 2014 and 2015 at Chapel Field Christian School, posting a best mark of 61-5. He threw the college shot put 49-4.25 twice during the 2015-16 indoor season, while competing unattached.

A native of Eleuthera, Bahamas, Pratt won the Penn Relays high school boys' javelin title in both 2014 and 2015 for St. Augustine's College. His personal-best heave of 220-7 is less than 10 feet off of the Bahamian national record (229-9), which has stood for 25 years.

Oyarzun set the women's hammer school record (167-1) during her two years at De Anza College and won the 2015 Coast Conference hammer title.

Olympic Hopeful
Jocelyn Williams, who earned second team All-America honors in the women's hammer last season for the Lady Flames, is now living and training in Myrtle Beach. Williams, aiming to throw the hammer at this summer's U.S. Olympic Trials, will compete in the event alongside Lady Flames Dasiana Larson and Catherine Oyarzun on Friday.

Spring Break at the Beach
Liberty will spend its Spring Break week training in Myrtle Beach. A larger group of Flames and Lady Flames will then compete in the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, March 17-19 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, before returning to Lynchburg.
