The Liberty Lady Flames lacrosse team will travel to Norfolk, Va., on Saturday for a non-conference matchup against Old Dominion at L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Live stats and live video for Saturday's contest will be made available by the Old Dominion Athletics Communications department. There is a nominal fee for the live stream. Fans that are unable to attend can follow live updates on Twitter by following @LUGameday.
Last Time Out The Lady Flames fell to Navy on Saturday by the final score of 21-7. The contest was played in Annapolis, Md., at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Abby Britton and Kayla Foster notched two goals each, while Callie Francis collected a team-high three points on one goal and two assists. A positive note for the Lady Flames to take away from the contest was that they successfully scored on each of their three free-position attempts. Liberty also netted seven goals on 11 shots. Katherine Widrick started the contest in goal for the Lady Flames, allowing 12 goals and recording six saves. Aubrie Tarris finished the contest between the pipes, allowing nine goals and picking up three saves.
Same Name, Double the Trouble Senior captains Kallie Britton and Callie Francis rank second and third on the team in points. Britton is tied with Foster and sister Abby Britton for the most goals on the squad with seven. The Kansas native ranks third on the squad in points with eight. Meanwhile, Francis has netted five goals and dished out five assists, tying Foster for the most assists on the squad. The redshirt senior ranks second on the team in points with 10, only two behind Foster's 12 points.
Experienced Newcomers Foster and Brianna McCaffrey have stepped up in a tremendous way for the Liberty offense. Foster leads the team in both points (12) and assists (5). The Pennsylvania native also is tied for a team-high seven goals. McCaffrey has collected one goal per game in three of her first four outings. The freshman midfielder is boasting a shot on goal percentage of .750.
Brittons Got Talent Sisters Abby and Kallie Britton have accounted for 14 goals and one assist thus far. Both Abby and Kallie are tied with Foster for a team-high seven goals through the first four contests. Abby, a sophomore midfielder, has surged onto the scene for the Lady Flames. The Kansas native recorded one goal a season ago and has already netted seven goals on seven shots this season. In addition, Abby is third on the team in draw controls with four. Kallie has owned up to her label of captain. The senior midfielder has netted seven goals and recorded one assist. Kallie ranks third on the team in points (8) and has successfully recorded two points per contest. The Kansas native has also accounted for six ground balls and three draw controls.
Defensive Wins Championships The defensive core of Colleen Ekert, Meghan Hammond, Lindsey McNamara and Victoria Tickle have lived up to their potential. The quartet has combined for 46 of Liberty's 92 ground balls this season, to complement their 27 of the Lady Flames' 47 caused turnovers. Tickle leads the squad in ground balls with 19 (new career high), while Ekert and Hammond each have 10. Ekert leads the defense in caused turnovers with 10, with McNamara and Tickle on her heels with eight each.
The Monarch of the Atlantic Sun Old Dominion enters the weekend with a 3-1 overall mark, ranking first in the A-Sun. Most recently, the Lady Monarchs fell to Richmond by a final of 13-7 yesterday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. Prior to that, Old Dominion squeaked by Longwood (14-13), Campbell (12-11) and Virginia Tech (10-7) to begin the season with a 3-0 mark.
Ashmore Standing leads the squad in both goals (11) and points (13). Connor Carson and Morgan Marrale are tied for second in points with eight apiece. Marrale also leads the team in assists with five. Maggie Buckley has collected all four decisions for the Lady Monarchs, allowing 44 goals on 118 shots faced. Buckley has also accounted for 43 saves this season.
What's Next? Following Saturday's showdown, the Lady Flames return to action on Wednesday for a neutral-site contest against Notre Dame. The contest will begin at 3 p.m. and will be played in Blacksburg, Va., at Thompson Field.
