The Liberty Flames will finish out their three-event swing through the "Sunshine State" this weekend when they participate in the The Hayt.
The three-day event, hosted by North Florida, will be contested at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (par 72, 7,001 yards), beginning Friday.
Liberty has competed in this event once before in 2014, finishing in 12th place with a 26-over par 890 (297-298-295). However, none of Head Coach Jeff Thomas' starting five for this weekend's tournament were with the team in 2014.
This year's 15-team tournament field includes seven top 50 programs, including Oklahoma State (No. 18), UCLA (No. 22), UAB (No. 26), North Florida (No. 39), East Carolina (No. 42), Louisville (No. 44) and Tennessee (No. 48).
The Flames are familiar with several of the teams in the field, having finished ahead of tournament host North Florida, UCF and UAB at last week's SunTrust Gator Invitational.
North Florida finished seven strokes behind Liberty in seventh place with a 14-over par 854 at the 54-hole event in Gainesville, Fla. UCF shared 10th place with a 19-over par 859 and UAB finished in 12th place with a 23-over par 863.
Liberty was able to climb over the trio of teams thanks to a near program record final round effort, allowing the Flames to finish the event in sixth place.
Liberty carded a 7-under par 273 during the closing round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational, which marked the second-best, 18-hole team total in program history. Overall, Liberty finished the event with a 7-over par 847 (294-280-273) tournament total.
Liberty's strong finish at Florida's event was due in part to the solid play of sophomore Mickey DeMorat. He finished in third place with an 8-under par 202 (70-66-66), tying the best individual 54-hole total in program history.
DeMorat's second top five finish of the season allowed the Florida native to lower his season stroke average to 72.50, the second-best mark on the team.
Liberty is led by Isaiah Logue with a 71.33 season stroke average. The sophomore has posted four top 10 finishes in six events this season and has played nine of his 18 rounds at par or better during the 2015-16 campaign.
Rounding out Liberty's roster at this weekend's The Hayt event will be sophomores Payton Taylor (73.83 stroke average) and Hutson Chandler (74.50 stroke average) and freshman Gabe Lench (74.06 stroke average).
Taylor finished in 37th place at the SunTrust Gator Invitational thanks to playing the final 36 holes on the Mark Bostic Golf Course at a combined 2-under par (68-70).
Likewise, Chandler and Lench found late success at the event. The pair helped the Flames post its 7-under par 273 final round thanks to a pair of 1-under par rounds of 69.
The tournament gets underway with 18 holes of action at the Sawgrass Country Club on Friday, followed by 18 holes of play on Saturday and Sunday.
