Liberty lacrosse defender Victoria Tickle has been named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for contests played from Feb. 8-14, as announced by the league office.
The Fairfax, Va., native is the first Lady Flame to garner the Big South Defensive Player of the Week award since Juliann Elmer on March 23, 2015.
The junior defender led the Lady Flames on the defensive side of the field despite Liberty falling to Virginia Tech on Saturday, 7-4, in Blacksburg, Va. Tickle aided Liberty in holding the Hokies below their season average of 11 goals per game, while also holding Virginia Tech to its second lowest scoring burst of the season. Tickle led the team in ground balls with five, and also paced the Liberty squad in caused turnovers with three.
Tickle and the Lady Flames return to action on Saturday with a non-conference bout with in-state opponent Richmond. Liberty will square off against the Spiders at 1 p.m., at Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va.
