With the Liberty softball season just over two weeks away, Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) reporter Nick Pierce caught up with third-year Head Coach Dot Richardson.
The Lady Flames, coming off of a 29-30 record in 2015, were voted to finish fourth in the 2016 Big South Preseason Softball coaches' poll. Liberty finished fourth in the conference last season with an even 12-12 league mark. The team features 13 newcomers (12 freshmen, one transfer), in addition to a returning group of 12 players. The Lady Flames return three all-conference players from last season, including Chandler Ball, 2015 Big South Freshman of the Year Alexia Taylor and Tori Zavodny. Additionally, Taylor, Zavodny and Madison Kotchey were all named to the 2015 Big South All-Freshman team.
The Lady Flames begin their 2016 campaign with a trip to Orlando, Fla. Liberty will play at No. 17/17 UCF on Feb. 11 at 4 p.m., before playing in four games at the Dot Richardson Invitational in Clermont, Fla., Feb. 12-13. Then, on Feb. 14, Liberty will face 2015 Women's College World Series team No. 5/5 Alabama, at UCF's stadium.
