ITA Regional Rankings
After posting a 10-4 fall record, including advancing to the ITA All-American qualifier, Sam Matheson has been tabbed as the No. 15 singles player in the Atlantic Region.
Matheson becomes the highest regional ranked player in program history and the first Liberty Flame ranked in the Atlantic Region since Shea Thomas garnered the No. 19 regional ranking in 2014.
Matheson finished the 2015 season with 22 wins, ranking second most in program history and only five shy of Thomas' record of 27 set in 2013. The New Zealand native recorded a team-best 15 singles victories during the spring, complimenting his 10 doubles victories.
Matheson needs just 14 wins to move into Liberty's Top 10 leaderboard for career singles victories.
The junior looks to lead the Flames to their eighth consecutive double-digit wins season, with the hopes of capturing the Big South title in April. The Flames will begin their season on Jan. 22 with a doubleheader against James Madison and Morehead State at the Sports Racket in Lynchburg, Va. The first serve is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
