As the calendar winds down to the final days of 2015, the Liberty Flames Sports Network is looking back at the moments that made this athletics year special for Flames Nation.
The series continues today by looking at Moment No. 9, baseball rallying to send its seniors off on Senior Day with an 8-7 victory over High Point on May 16.
After dropping the first two games of a Big South weekend series to High Point, Liberty looked like it was going to claim a win over High Point in its final home game of the season. However, High Point tied the series finale, 7-7, with three runs in the top of the eighth inning.
The lead was short lived as senior Ashton Perritt belted the first pitch of the bottom of the eighth inning over the fence in center field, allowing Liberty to regain the lead, 8-7, heading into the final frame.
High Point pressured Liberty in the top of the ninth, putting two runners on base followed by a single to left field. Perritt scooped up the ball and gunned the would-be tying run down at the plate to seal the Senior Day victory.
The Flames finished the year with a 33-23 record and a 16-8 record in Big South play, posting their 11th-straight season with 30 or more victories.
The Liberty Flames Sports Network will continue to countdown the top moments of 2015 when LibertyFlames.com reveals moment No. 8 on Wednesday.
