Recently, LFSN Game On was able to sit down with Head Field Hockey Coach Jodi Murphy, allowing the fifth-year head coach to share her personal journey that led her to Liberty.
During the feature story, Murphy talks about where she developed her love of sports and her passion for investing in the lives of those around her.
Murphy helped start Liberty's field hockey program when she was announced as the program's first coach on Nov. 18, 2010. In five short seasons, Murphy has quickly developed Liberty's program into one of the best in the country.
Liberty won the NorPac Championship in 2013 and 2014, advancing to the NCAA Field Hockey Championship both seasons. In 2014, the Lady Flames picked up the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory when they downed Richmond, 3-1, in an NCAA Play-In game on Nov. 12.
The Lady Flames spent the 2015 season as an independent, posting a 12-6 and being nationally ranked for 10 weeks. Liberty was ranked as high as No. 8 in the country, its first-ever top 10 nationally ranking, and finished the season ranked No. 14 in the country.
Murphy will help usher the Lady Flames into a new era of competition next season when Liberty joins the BIG EAST Conference as an affiliate member, an announcement that was made on Dec. 8. Liberty posted a 3-0 record against the current members of the BIG EAST in 2015, recording wins over No. 15 Old Dominion (2-1), Providence (4-3/OT) and Temple (3-2/2 OT).
