2016 Lacrosse Schedule
Third-year head coach Kelly Nangle has announced the releasing of the Liberty Lady Flames' 2016 lacrosse schedule. Highlighting the Lady Flames' schedule are road contests against Virginia Tech and Navy as well as a neutral site contest against national powerhouse Notre Dame. Liberty's schedule is also featured by a home contest against Winthrop, the defending Big South Champion in a rematch of the 2015 Big South Championship game.
The Lady Flames turned in a program-best 9-11 overall record a season ago, while also recording a 5-2 mark in Big South play, setting the program record for the most conference wins in a single season. The Lady Flames saw five individual single-game records broken as well as nine individual single-season records shattered, including Katy Pridemore's 51 goals. As a team, Liberty broke six single-game records in addition to seven single-season marks.
Entering its fourth season of play in the Big South, Liberty will play eight league games and nine non-conference contests. The Lady Flames will play eight contests at the friendly confines of the Liberty Lacrosse Field and eight road tilts. Liberty will also serve as the home team against Notre Dame in neutral site competition in Blacksburg, Va.
Liberty opens the season with four of its first five contests on the road, beginning at Virginia Tech on Feb. 13 in Blacksburg, Va. The Lady Flames will then take on Richmond in Richmond, Va., on Feb. 20 before competing in their first home contest on Feb. 24 against VCU.
Following the lone home contest, Liberty will take to the road on Feb. 27 to take on Navy in Annapolis, Md., before traveling to Norfolk, Va., for a non-conference bout with Old Dominion on March 5.
On March 9, the Lady Flames will have a marquee matchup with Notre Dame on the campus of Virginia Tech. Liberty will then have a four-game home stand beginning with Lehigh on March 12 and ending with its conference opener against Winthrop on March 30. In between, the Lady Flames will take on George Mason on March 23 and William & Mary on March 26.
Three of the next four contests will be played away from home, beginning with an April 2 showdown against Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., and ending with High Point on April 13 in High Point, N.C.
Two of their final three regular season matchups will be played at the Liberty Lacrosse Field, including the season-finale on April 23 against Presbyterian. The final road game of the regular season will be on April 20 when the Lady Flames travel to Radford, Va., to take on Radford in its inaugural season.
The 2016 Big South Lacrosse Championship will begin on April 30 and conclude on May 7. The No. 1 seed for the tournament will serve as the host for both the semifinals and the title game.
