Liberty Men's Basketball Head Coach Ritchie McKay has announced the signing of Hayden Koval to attend Liberty University for the 2016-17 academic year.
"What a blessing it is to add a player like Hayden to our roster," McKay stated. "Although young and thin, he has great upside and if he continues to develop he has a chance to make a terrific impact! Hayden choosing Liberty just further speaks to the quality of institution that we are privileged to be a part of."
Koval is a 7-0 center who currently plays for head coach Rob Davis at CHANT Homeschool in Prosper, Texas. He earned all-regional homeschool honors in 2015, all-tournament honors for the National Homeschool Tournament twice (2014-15) and all-tournament for the Texas Homeschool State Tournament three straight seasons (2013-15).
During his junior year, Koval averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks, making him a top 65 prospect in the state of Texas according to TexasHoops.com and Rivalshoops.com. In addition to his high school accomplishments, Koval also played summer travel AAU basketball for the faith-based program FV 5:17 in Dallas coached by Aaron Smith, Neil Dougherty, and Chad Wilkerson. "When we were at Liberty the first time, we had a class that ended up being highly acclaimed," McKay said. "And although that class achieved much, this is as excited as I have ever been about a recruiting class in their overall fit for our university, their playing ability and their character as a whole."
