Senior midfielder Hannah Doherty was named the final Field Hockey Lady Flame of the Week for the 2015 season, as announced by the field hockey coaching staff earlier this afternoon.
This is Doherty's first time receiving the Lady Flame of the Week award this season.
The New Jersey native played a key role in the offense on Saturday, recording 10 points in Liberty's 12-0 rout of the visiting Appalachian State Mountaineers. Doherty's 10 points (4g, 2a) set a new program record for the most points recorded in a single contest.
Doherty's four-goal outburst was her first career hat trick, coming on Senior Day in her final contest of her Liberty career. Doherty's four goals tied Natalie Barr and Ashlee Krulock for the most goals scored in a single contest by a Lady Flame, a feat that was last accomplished in 2013.
Doherty collected her first point of the contest in the ninth minute when she found Krulock for Liberty's second goal of the contest. Five minutes later, Doherty flicked in her first goal of the contest off a rebound.
The Liberty senior notched her third goal of the season and second of the contest in the 28th minute. Doherty entered the crease from the right side and deked to her left to put Appalachian State goalie Cristina Ceppi flat on her back. Doherty then flicked in a wide open reverse shot to extend the Lady Flames' lead to six.
Coming out of the gates in the second half, Doherty netted Liberty's first two goals of the frame, bringing her points total to nine and solidifying her first career hat trick. Both goals were assisted by Krulock.
On Liberty's final goal of the season, Krulock buried the 12th goal of the day as it was assisted by Doherty to notch her record-setting 10th point of the contest.
