The Liberty Lady Flames tennis squad concludes fall competition on Sunday afternoon at the final round of the Wild West Open in Denton, Texas.
In main draw action, the Lady Flames finished the day with a 1-2 record. The lone win came in the back draw doubles finals. The doubles tandem of Emily Groeneveld and Belen Rivera defeated UT Arlington's Carla Cerdan and Valeria Lopez to claim the back draw victory.
Groeneveld turned around to compete in the Flight B Singles final, falling to host North Texas' Nastya Shestakova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
Maria Khval competed in the Flight A Singles final against No. 17 TCU's Sofiko Kadzhaya, falling in three sets. Khval claimed the first set by a score of 6-2. However, Kadzhaya collected 6-3 victories in the second and third set to secure the victory.
Liberty will return to action on Jan. 16 when the Lady Flames host Wofford at noon at the Sports Racket in Lynchburg, Va. The contest will be the spring season opener for both squads.
