The No. 12 Liberty Lady Flames field hockey squad will close out the regular season this Saturday with a matchup against Appalachian State at 11 a.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. The contest will serve as Senior Day for the 10 graduating seniors and Olivia Carroll, a junior defender.

About Liberty The Lady Flames are 11-6, falling in their previous two bouts with Top 5 opponents. On Oct. 29, Liberty fell to No. 3 North Carolina by a score of 7-1 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Abby Julius provided the Lady Flames with their lone goal in the second half to avoid the shutout. On Saturday, the Lady Flames fell to Duke in Lynchburg, Va., 3-2 in overtime. Liberty netted two equalizing goals from Hannah Jones and Alynn Richardson throughout regulation, forcing the Blue Devils to play into overtime. Duke buried its first shot of the extra period just three minutes in to clinch the overtime victory over the upset-minded Lady Flames.

Lucky Number Seven Liberty and Appalachian State will face off for the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs with Liberty searching for its seventh consecutive victory over the Mountaineers. The Lady Flames have outscored Appalachian State 42-5 over the six-game winning streak. Scouting the Mountaineers: The former NorPac foe enters the contest with a 4-12 overall record. The Mountaineers have dropped four consecutive contests after picking up two wins over Saint Louis and Davidson. Appalachian State is being outscored 18-1 over the four-game skid. For the season, the Mountaineers are being outscored 69-24 and outshot 290-134. Appalachian State is led offensively by Caroline Phillips and Taylor Cimbalist who each have 17 points, having combined for 11 of the team's 24 goals.
What's Next? Following this weekend's contest, the Lady Flames will await possible selection into the 2015 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament. The selection show will begin on Sunday at 10 p.m. on ncaa.com.
