Holly Van Noord
Liberty women's soccer goalkeeper Holly Van Noord has been named the Big South Player of the Week for games played Oct. 19-27, as announced by the conference office, Wednesday. The weekly honor is the second for the Lady Flames this season and the second for Van Noord, who also received the award in 2013.
Van Noord finished the three-game span with 14 saves and two shutouts. The redshirt junior played 45 minutes of Liberty's 3-0 victory at Winthrop on Oct. 21, recording three saves in the opening half. Van Noord then recorded nine saves in the Lady Flames 1-0 shutout win against Coastal Carolina on Senior Day, last Saturday.
The Big South saves leader (103) closed out the stretch with two saves, including a diving one-handed stop in a 1-0 victory at Longwood, Tuesday night. The shutout marked Van Noord's eighth of the season and 31st of her career, two away from the Big South all-time career record held by former Radford goalkeeper Che' Brown (33, 2010-13). Liberty's victory also allowed the Lady Flames to earn its second straight Big South regular-season title.
After garnering the No. 1 seed in the 2015 Big South Women's Soccer Championship, Liberty will host No. 8 seed Winthrop, Sunday. Game time at Osborne Stadium is slated for 2 p.m.
