Caroline Douglas tied her season high with 20 kills at Presbyterian, Friday.
Caroline Douglas entered Liberty's all-time top 10 in career kills with a match-high 20 kills, helping Liberty hit a season-best .371 on the way to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) win at Presbyterian, Friday at the Templeton Center.
The Lady Flames improve to 11-10, including 6-2 in conference play with their first sweep of a Big South opponent so far this season. PC falls to 3-19, 1-7 in Big South contests following its eighth straight setback.
Liberty hit a season-high .371 with 48 kills, while the Blue Hose scored 38 kills at a .204 pace. The Lady Flames led, 6-3 in blocks and 44-29 in digs, while PC held a 6-3 advantage in service aces.
Douglas tied her season high with 20 kills, hitting .459. She passed both Lillie Happel (2010-13) and Nicki Scripko (2007-09) on Friday. Douglas now enters 9th place in program history with 1,244 career kills. Haley Jeffcoat scored 10 kills, while Anna Willey dished out a match-high 39 assists. Margaret Latchford collected 12 digs, while Michelle Melendez totaled 10 digs. Jade Vorster posted a match-high five blocks.
Samantha Del Toro sent down 11 kills for the Blue Hose, while Sierra Davis hit .476 with 10 kills. Sara Rogers dished out 28 assists, while Mikayla Register collected 14 digs. Ashton Stewart served up five aces.
Set one saw major swings in momentum. Presbyterian staged an early 8-0 run to take the lead, 12-6. The Blue Hose led, 18-14, before Liberty closed the set on an 11-0 rally, with Susan Babcock serving for the final 10 points. Douglas clinched the opening set with her eighth kill.
The Lady Flames hit .500 with 16 kills in set one, while the Blue Hose attacked at a .167 clip. Douglas scored eight kills for Liberty, while Davis countered with five kills.
Liberty got off to a 6-1 start in the second set. However, the Blue Hose battle back, winning the race to 20 at 20-16 following a block. PC led, 22-20, before the Lady Flames closed on a 5-1 rally to win, 25-23. Jeffcoat sent down three straight kills to seal the victory for Liberty.
The guests added 16 kills during set two, hitting at a .344 pace compared to .237 for PC. Jeffcoat scored six kills for Liberty, while Del Toro had six kills for the Blue Hose.
The Lady Flames pulled away late in the final session to earn the sweep. PC narrowed the deficit to 17-16 with a Martina Shamley kill. Douglas and Willey then answered with back-to-back kills, making it 19-16. After a PC sideout, Liberty outscored the Blue Hose, 6-2 to win, 25-19.
During set three, Liberty had a .314-.206 advantage in hitting percentage. Douglas scored seven third-set kills to round out her 20-kill night.
The Lady Flames head to Rock Hill, S.C., for a 4 p.m. match, tomorrow at Winthrop to wrap up their weekend.
